INVITATION

MFC ANNUAL MEET 2006

Public Health Education in India:  Lacunae, Challenges & the Way Ahead

The Medico Friend Circle (MFC) cordially invites you to its 33rd Annual Meet in December 2006. The theme is Public Health Education in India:  Lacunae, Challenges & the Way Ahead’.

DATES: 28th & 29th December 2006

VENUE: National Tuberculosis Institute, 8 Bellary Road, Bangalore.

Objective: To critically examine the experience of Public Health Education in India until the present, reflect on the reasons for its achievements and lacunae, and draw upon the lessons to chart a set of principles for development of the structure and content of  Public Health Education in the Indian context (see the concept note).

ABOUT MFC

The Medico Friend Circle (MFC) is a nation-wide group of socially conscious individuals concerned about the health problems of the people of India. They include medical and public health professionals, social activists and health care NGO workers. Since its inception in 1974, MFC has critically analyzed the existing health care system and has tried to evolve an appropriate approach towards health care which is humane and which can meet the needs of the vast majority of the people in our country.

The existing system of health care, we have realized, is not geared towards the needs of the majority of the people, the poor. It requires fundamental changes. This would occur as a part of the total social transformation in the country, since the medical system is only a part of the total system.

To achieve this goal, measures however small have to begin here and today. MFC sees itself as part of a nation-wide current committed to this philosophy. Its members engage in scientific discussion that integrates the biomedical and social dimensions of health and health care. It publishes a bi-monthly journal, the MFC Bulletin. It has an annual and a life membership. It has an e-group with active discussion throughout the

year.
